"Bloom Where You Are Planted" Activity

"Bloom Where You Are Planted"

What a wonderful time we all had as sisters at our "Bloom Where You Are Planted" Relief Society Activity on Tuesday, June 21st.  It couldn't have been a coincidence that the activity took place on the first day of summer.  It was a beautiful day and a perfect time to start thinking about how cleaning is not just reserved for spring!!

A great big thank you goes out to all who participated, especially our instructors for the evening:

Dianna Byron, whose lesson was titled, "Plant the Seeds, Hoe the Weeds" helped us narrow down some fantastic tips for keeping our home clean and orderly.   With the use of handy chore charts and numerous tricks for jobs from cleaning shower scum to what to do if the house is dirty and you hear a knock on your door, we developed an awesome repertoire of strategies to plant our seeds and hoe our weeds.  Thanks Dianna!!

Tessa Carnegie brought us "Gardeners Know All the Best Dirt" in which she taught us how to Purge, Purchase and Place.  Get rid of the old, bring in the efficient and helpful new, and find a place for everything.  If it doesn't have a place, or "a home" as Dianna put it, it doesn't belong!  Tessa brought so many examples of storage to keep our house uncluttered while still having our items easily accessible.  Thanks Tessa!!

Diana Holyoak closed with "Keeper of the Garden."  Diana helped us to remember why we must keep our homes clean and orderly.  The Holy Spirit can not reside in any unclean place.  In order to invite the Holy Spirit to reside in our homes and, therefore, our lives, we must take care to create order rather than chaos.  Thanks Diana!!

Each of our wonderful instructors shared the same sentiment - that while keeping our homes clean and orderly is helpful in maintaining peace and inviting the Spirit, we mustn't forget what is most important.  That is, spending quality time with our families and not allowing messes or disorder to keep us from living the beautiful lives we have been given by our most gracious Heavenly Father.  I'm sorry I didn't get pictures of our instructors as they taught, I didn't want to interrupt the flow of the lesson!!  I'm sure you don't mind at all.

We ended our evening with a fun craft, provided by Kim Peterson and the rest of the Relief Society Presidency and a delicious summer-inspired dessert.  Check it out:

Congrats to the winners of our door prizes!!  There was a lot going on so I only saw 2 of our winners!
Congratulations to Rose Lockett and Jessie Cornell.
If you're the third, let me know and I'll add your name.
